| General Info |
All of January and Feburary , all students are working on a unit of art history. We are learning about artists and their styles for our annual art show in March ( the same night as PTO’s Turkey Supper). Students are learning the who, what, where, when, why and hows of these famous artists. We will be working in various styles and using a variety of supplies. Supplies and resources will come from our Fall fundraiser from water bottles, donations and possible grants. |
| 1st Grade |
Mrs. Dismang and Mr. Melick’s first grade have created art in the styles of Staurt Davis ( lots of shapes and colors) and Winslow Homer ( his stormy seas of boats). |
| 2nd Grade | Our second grade art classes are learning about the stick like drawings of Keith Harings and Winslow Homer. |
| 3rd Grade |
Third grade is busy with Salvador Dali’s dreamlike fantasies and MC Escher’s endless puzzle like designs. |
| 4th &
5th Grade |
Fourth grade is continuing their travel through art history that we started at the beginning of the year. We are up to art of the Middle Ages, soon to be moving in to Gothic art and Renaissance artists. Fifth grade painted beautiful sunlit still lifes in the style of Janet Fish and the linear designs of John Covert. |
| 6th Grade |
Sixth grade is spending a little more time in Europe before we head to the continent of Asia to celebrate Chinese New Year in February. |
| 7/8 Grade |
The junior high art classes have created some cool computer art pieces through art websites. They working on Pablo Picasso’s blue period, cubism and surrealist portraits as well as MC Escher’s patterned puzzles on scratch film paper. Their next artist is George Seurat’s pointillism. |
| What's Next? |
All art created in art these next two months will not be sent home until after the art show in March. Also is February, we will be participating again this year in the Car of the Future contest sponsored by the Journal Star in Peoria. We will have our own PGS Contest with awards like last year. All drawings will be entered providing the students have followed directions and have their name and age on the back of their work. In the spring, we have our Fine Arts Trip to see the play Wicked in Chicago. This trip was opened to all Art and Music 7/8 th grade students. For Art students had the chance to pay for their trip through selling PGS water bottles. We will also take our annual trip to the Peoria Courthouse for an outdoor art exhibit. |
