Text Box: BOARD NOTES
FROM THE SEPTEMBER 11, 2007 MEETING OF THE PRINCEVILLE BOARD OF EDUCATION...
Text Box: A public hearing was conducted on the Mandate Waiver for Veteran’s Day. The Princeville School District will waive non-attendance on the Veteran’s Day holiday for the next five years. The District will conduct a commemorative holiday through instruction and activities to recognize Veteran’s Day.

A public hearing was conducted on the Fiscal Year 2008 Budget for Princeville School District 326. Superintendent Hanneken presented the proposed budget. Several revenue sources are unknown because the State of Illinois has yet to pass a budget implementation bill. Illinois School Districts are still operating on last year’s income levels. The Education Fund shows a projected deficit between revenue and expenditures of approximately $300,000.

The Princeville Board of Education began their regular meeting recognizing some of the good things happening in the Princeville School District. Princeville Applause was given to The PHS Math Department, Monica Grant, Barb Kratzer, and Tait Sennett for their math lab and tutoring plans, to Joe House for being selected from 350 Illinois agriculture instructors for the Excellence in Teaching Award, and to the PGS Students and Staff for their perseverance to continue teaching and learning through the hot school days.

In action items, the Board approved the 2007-08 Application for Recognition for Princeville Grade School and Princeville High School indicating that the schools are in full compliance with all rules and regulations. The annual budget and the Veteran’s Day holiday waiver were approved.

Personnel items included the acceptance, with regret, of the retirement of Robert Tacadina as PHS custodian effective September 14, 2007. “Tac” was praised for his nine years of service to the Princeville District.

Other personnel items included the resignation of Dawn Campbell as PGS Student Council Advisor and employment of Ange Bertucci as her replacement. Like Bonomo was employed as PHS Chess Club Sponsor, Lisa Twidwell as PHS Assistant Girls’ Softball Coach, and Laura Ehnle and Arlene Hensel as co-PHS Assistant Girls’ Basketball Coach.

Superintendent Hanneken reported that the tentative 2007-08 Princeville District Strategic Plan has been completed by the Educational Strategies Team. The plan will be presented at the annual “State of the Schools” school community meeting on September 25th and on the School Improvement Day on October 5. The School Mental Health Support Grant was discussed. This grant will provide support this year’s suicide prevention activities and fund professional development, teacher support, student instruction, and in-school student counseling. The emphasis of the grant will be bullying, mental health stigma reduction, and the development of student interpersonal skills.

A Princeville District Outside Facilities Committee has been formed to examine needs and priorities for school grounds and athletic facilities. The advisory committee includes representatives of parent support groups, staff, Board of Education, the Village Board, and community members. The first meeting of the committee will be on September 26 at 7:00 p.m. in the unit office.

A special meeting of the Princeville Board of Education will be conducted on September 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the unit office. The purpose of the meeting is to hear a presentation by Norm Durflinger, former Morton District Superintendent. Mr. Durflinger presents informational presentations for the Illinois Association of School Boards on consolidation. The subject is not being presented because the Board of Education is, by any means, considering consolidation for Princeville School District, but because Board members would like equal information on the issue. All in the school community are invited to attend the meeting.
