Text Box: The May meeting of the Princeville District Board of Education began with a public hearing on the issuance of general obligation school bonds.  At a May 22 special meeting, the Board plans to issue $670,000 in working cash bonds to install air conditioning in Princeville Grade School this summer.  The total authorization for bonds was $1,250,000.

The Princeville Board of Education began their regular meeting recognizing some of the good things happening in the Princeville School District.  So many students, staff, and community members received Princeville Applause a list is attached. Take a look at our excellence! 

During public recognition, Joe House presented vocational curriculum study plans, Jeanine Kraft made a presentation to the Board from the Junior Football League, and Tom Loos indicated that the Concerned Citizens of Princeville (CCOP) were participating in a Leadership Academy.  The Board enjoyed and was very impressed by the Celebration of Princeville Grade School Excellence PowerPoint developed by Kim Friedman and Tracy Strebel.

The PRINCVILLE PRAISE Award was presented to Julie Losey for her leadership in developing the community tutoring program that is an important part of the PGS Extended School Day program. This award is given to individuals in the Princeville School District Community who have shown exceptional service to the District and its students.

As annual business, the Board approved the Peoria County Purchasing Program agreement for cafeteria foods, the summer lease of a lawn mower from German-Bliss, and a $55,900 request for a School Technology Revolving Loan.  Jim Colyott was appointed as the District representative on the SEAPCO Governing Board, with Melanie Cox-Lagerstrom as the alternate.  

In other action, the Board of Education approved the PHS Student Handbook, adopted K-8 math texts,  and approved the membership in the Southern Illinois Public Cooperative.  The SIPC will allow the school district to purchase custodial supplies at a statewide bid cost.  A copier lease was approved with Digital Copy Systems that will put a new copier in both schools, with the present copier remaining as a backup.

Several contracts were approved for summer building projects:  PHS east wing domestic water replacement—Horan Construction, $245,663; PHS asbestos abatement—DEM Services, $18,700; PGS HVAC renovation/electrical upgrade—Meister HVAC, $572,600; fee for the HVAC project—apaceDesign, $31,350; PHS locker replacement—Storage Services, Inc, $40,160; PGS topographical survey—Mohr & Kerr Engineering & Land Surveying, $2,900; replacement of PHS suspended basketball backboard and controls—AFS Athletic Floor Systems, $8,125.  Mrs. Hanneken reported on summer maintenance plans and life safety work that included several other projects.  If all work goes as planned, the required life safety renovations from the Ten-Year Life Safety Survey will be completed this year.

In personnel action, the Board accepted the letters of intent to retire in May 2011 from Diana Williams and Joe House.  The resignations of Shelley Atkins-Gee as Instructional Aide and Tom DuWaldt as PGS Assistant Track Coach were accepted.  Joe Chovan was hired to replace Mr. DuWaldt.  Scott Endress, Roy Ramos, and Anavelia Mauricio were employed as migrant summer school personnel, contingent on grant approval.  Summer student custodial/technology workers employed were Casey Hoag, Jessie Hill, Bryce Downie, Alyssa Huffman, Michel Elsasser, Miles Colwell, and Matthew Snyder.  Lisa Kerr-Bisbee and Charlene Wagner will work as part-time summer painters.

Discussion items included the first reading of several School District Policies, the federal employer/employee deferred payment requirements, electrical and fuel cost increase comparisons, and the TIF 1 and TIF 2 reimbursement requests sent to the Village of Princeville.
