BOARD OF EDUCATION MINUTES – February 27, 2008

 

1.      Call to Order:

President Stoller called the Princeville Community Unit School District 326 Board of Education special meeting to order on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 5:42 p.m. in the Unit Office.

3.      Public Recognition:

None

 

4.      Appoint Board President to preside over student discipline hearing:

A motion by Chris Steidinger, seconded by Miles Colwell, to appoint the board president to preside over student discipline hearing.  Roll call:  Colwell-aye, Steidinger-aye, Cowser-aye, Ptak-aye, Stoller-aye; 5-ayes, 0-nays.  Motion carried.

 

5.      Executive Session:

 

A.     A motion by Miles Colwell, seconded by Darin Cowser to go into executive session at 5:44 p.m. to conduct a student discipline hearing.  Roll Call:  Steidinger-aye, Cowser-aye, Ptak-aye, Stoller-aye, Colwell-aye; 5-ayes, 0-nays.  Motion carried.

 

      Streitmatter arrived at 5:55 p.m.

 

B.    A motion by Miles Colwell, seconded by Darin Cowser, to return to regular session at 6:10 p.m.; 6-ayes, 0-nays; motion carried.

 

6.      Board Action on guilt or innocence for violation of school rules:

A motion by Bruce Stoller, seconded by Doug Streitmatter, that student #30265 is found to have violated school rules by possessing a banned controlled substance (cannabis) that constitutes gross disobedience under circumstances so related to the school program as to warrant discipline.

Roll Call:  Streitmatter-aye, Cowser-aye, Ptak-aye, Stoller-aye, Colwell-aye, Steidinger-aye; 6-ayes, 0-nays.  Motion carried.

 

7.      Executive Session:

 

A.     A motion by Darin Cowser, seconded by Doug Streitmatter to go into executive session at 6:13 p.m. to determine if further disciplinary action is appropriate for student #30265.  Roll Call:  Cowser-aye, Ptak-aye, Stoller-aye, Colwell-aye, Steidinger-aye, Streitmatter-aye; 6-ayes, 0-nays.  Motion carried.

 

B.    A motion by Doug Streitmatter, seconded by Darin Cowser, to return to regular session at 6:37 p.m.  6-ayes, 0-nays; motion carried.

 

8.      Board Action on discipline of student for violation of school rules:

A motion by Doug Streitmatter, seconded by Darin Cowser, that student #30265 shall be expelled from Princeville Community Unit School District #326 for the remainder of the

2007-2008 school year beginning on February 28, 2008 and the first semester of the 2008-09 school year.  Student #30265 may re-enter Princeville School District beginning with the first day of school after January 1, 2009.

 

Roll Call:  Stoller-aye, Colwell-aye, Steidinger-aye, Streitmatter-aye, Cowser-aye, Ptak-aye; 6-ayes, 0-nays.  Motion carried.

 

9.      Adjournment

A motion by Darin Cowser, seconded by Miles Colwell, to adjourn at 6:38 p.m.; 6-ayes,

0-nays.  Motion carried.
