BOARD NOTES…

From the August 12th, 2008 Board Meeting

 

 

The Princeville Board of Education began their regularly scheduled

meeting with a report from the Concerned Citizens of Princeville (CCOP)

group represented by Kelly Jenkins and Steve Janssen.  They discussed their

recent meeting and updated the Board with information regarding the Winning

Communities project that is being formed in the surrounding Princeville Community.

 

In consent agenda items, the Board approved the resurfacing of the PGS playground, approved the annual education support staff handbook revisions, approved the Junior Football League to use the district facilities this fall, made a resolution to abate the working cash fund to the education fund for the purposes of funding the PGS air conditioning project, adopted the recommended textbook for the PHS civics classes, and set the public hearing for the FY09 annual district budget for Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.

 

In reporting items, Board member Steve Rees gave a report on the Village Board meeting that he attended.  The administration gave their monthly reports including assessment results, building updates, enrollment, fall sports updates, and a summary of the summer migrant program.

 

In discussion items, the superintendent gave a presentation on the tentative FY09 annual budget.  The Board discussed: the sports overlaps at PGS and PHS; potential new ELPAC candidates to fill the current vacancies; the “Winning Communities” project which began at the joint board meeting on July 17th; and performed the first readings of the coaching evaluation instrument, and the job descriptions for the grade school guidance counselor, high school guidance counselor, and the grade school literacy coach.

 

In action items, the Board approved an increase in the following items beginning the 2008-09 school year: an increase in the substitute teacher’s daily rate to $90.00 per day; an increase in the mileage reimbursement rate to 43 cents per mile; and an increase in the driver’s education “behind the wheel” hourly rate to $23.64. 

 

In other action items, the Board appointed Leslie Ptak to attend the September ELPAC meeting, and Steve Rees and Doug Streitmatter to attend the upcoming Princeville Village Board meetings. The Board also voted to eliminate the restrictions of choosing between the sports that overlap at PGS, and performed their annual vote to keep closed session minutes for the previous six months confidential.

 

In personnel items, the Board employed Jodee Baumann, Angela Colyott, and Jennifer Kitterman as co-sponsors for Grade School Cheerleading and employed Sabrina Sutherland as an instructional aide.  The Board also approved the educational support staff salaries and wages and the 2008-2011 collective bargaining agreement between PCUSD#326 Board of Education and the PCUSD #326 Education Association.
