ENGLISH II
CLASSROOM RULES/COURSE OUTLINE
These rules are to be followed when you are in this class:
1. Do every assignment. Failure to do even one important assignment can easily change your average
from an “A” or “B” into a “D” or “F” .
2. YOU are responsible for keeping track of what assignments need to be done. Assignments will always
be written on the board, and you should copy those into your assignment notebook. If you miss class for
any reason, make sure you get your assignment sheet from the office (or from me if you go on a school
field trip without
having to get your teachers' signatures on a prearranged absence sheet) AS
SOON AS
YOU COME BACK. The assignments given on the days you are gone are DUE THE NEXT TIME
YOU COME TO CLASS unless you have been absent for several days. (Of course, I'll always be glad to
help or answer any questions you may have, but it is your responsibility to keep track of what you need to
do.)
3. Every assignment is due on time unless you have an excused absence. Most assignments will be due at
the beginning of the hour. That means at the beginning of the hour, and not five minutes later because you
just have to finish one more sentence. If an assignment is done, but left at home or in your locker, that
assignment is still considered late. It is always better to hand in a late assignment than to not do it at all. A
late grade is always going to be better than a zero. Major assignments (such as essays, term papers, etc.)
will lose one letter grade for every day they are late. Minor assignments (such as study questions,
vocabulary practices, grammar exercises, etc.) will only get 1 point if they are late.
4. Bring a pen, note paper, your assignment notebook, and the proper book(s) to class every day.
5. Essays are to be either written in ink or typed, depending on the assignment, and written only on the
front of the paper. Those done in pencil and/or written on the back of the paper will be penalized.
6. Each assignment is to have your first and last name, and the name and page numbers of the assignment
in the upper right corner.
7. Spiral notebook paper is not allowed for assignments that are to be handed in. How- ever you may
use spiral paper for taking notes, rough drafts, etc.
8. You are expected to be in your seat and reasonably quiet during class, especially when someone else
is talking.
9. You are expected to be in your seat by the time the bell rings at the beginning of class, and not just in
the room. Otherwise you are tardy.
10. You may not leave your seat at the end of the hour, until the bell rings. If you are not in your seat
when the bell rings, you'll stay after class.
11. Food and beverages are NOT allowed in the classroom.
During
the course of the year we will
1. Study and write about various types of literature.
2. Study various writing styles and create several writing projects including a researched term paper.
3. Study and practice the use of grammar and proper word usage in order to improve writing ability.
The point values of typical class assignments are
1. Tests...100 points
2. Essays...50 points
3. Paragraphs...10-25 points, depending on length
4. Grammar Exercises...5-10 points, depending on length
5. Quizzes...20 points
Your grade is determined by dividing the points you have earned by the total number of
possible points. That percentage is then applied to the school grading scale for your
report card grade.

A- 94-93 C- 78-77
B+ 92-91 D+ 76-75
B 90-87 D 74-71
B- 86-85 D- 70-69
C 82-79 F 68 or below
