Mrs. Harmison's Class Activities &

What She Teaches

Students work mostly on reading, spelling, English and Math. They also work on developing organization/study skills and some speech motor skills.

Some Routine Activities:
  • Phonemic Awareness Group
  • Phonemic Sequencing Group
  • Vocabulary Boxes-Each student has a file box with index sight words and new words from stories on individual index cards. They read the words to the teacher daily. When they have read the word on a card independently on three separate days, the card moves to the back of the box. Any card which is read independently with no assistance goes home with the student.
  • Beginning Readers- Students read 4 "little books" to the teacher 2-3 days each week. Each time they are able to mark for that book and get to move on to another book. The students receive a bookmark for each book they successfully complete. There are 40 "little books" in all.
